Meet mr. c

Geoff Carlisle (he/him) began his career teaching middle school science and sex education for 12 years in Texas and Mississippi. He designed learning experiences grounded in scientific inquiry and investigation, weaving in elements of social justice and opportunities for careers in science for his students. During his time in the classroom, he led curriculum writing initiatives in his district and as a part of a national public-private collaborative. He also facilitated science professional development for teachers in his district, as well as at local, state, and national teaching conferences. In 2018, he was awarded the Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching prize.

Leveraging his experience as a classroom educator and education policy advocacy, Geoff now works in education policy. He recently completed his Master’s of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs, and now works as a policy consultant with Deans for Impact, advising on federal and state-level policy efforts to increase access into instructionally-focused, practice-based educator-preparation programs. For the 2023-2024 academic year, he will be a Fulbright Researcher in Norway based at the University of Oslo, where he will investigate how recent policy reforms to educator-preparation programs are impacting teacher preparation, attrition, and retention.

Outside of his day job, he advocates for LGBTQIA+ rights, especially the rights of trans youth in Texas. As part of Equality Texas’s Rapid Response Team, he has testified before the Texas Senate, House, State Board of Education, and the Department of Family and Protective Services Legislature. He has written numerous Op-Eds for the Texas Tribune, EdSurge, and the Baines Report advocating for protecting trans youth. He has also facilitated professional development for educators and served on panel discussions for organizations such as Equality Texas, the International Society for Technology in Education, and Educators in Solidarity.

In his spare time, he enjoys photography, hiking, playing viola in orchestra, and competing in local triathlon races. You can read more about his professional experiences below.
